Jazz has deep roots in the Caribbean, and according to Luther François, Caribbean musicians have helped shape and enrich the genre since its early days. By blending jazz with local styles such as calypso, Latin rhythms, and folk traditions, they create a unique sound that reflects the region’s multicultural heritage.
François’s musical journey spans many Caribbean islands and international stages. Mostly self-taught, he developed his own style by drawing inspiration from diverse musical traditions while promoting St Lucian folk music. He believes that musicians should cultivate originality, patience, and a deep connection with both their instrument and the world around them, as music is closely linked to life and nature.
