Hervé Celcal, born in Martinique in 1975, began studying classical piano at the age of seven before continuing his training at École Normale Alfred Cortot in Paris. His talent and musical maturity were recognized early by French jazz pianist Bernard Maury. Alongside an international career as a producer, sideman, and studio musician working across jazz, world music, hip-hop, dancehall reggae, and zouk, Celcal developed a deeply personal artistic project inspired by the traditions of his native Martinique. 

In 2013, he released Bel Air for Piano, an original exploration of the island’s traditional bèlè music. Combining rhythmic sophistication with melodic richness, his piano style reflects influences ranging from Chopin and Bach to Oscar Peterson, Keith Jarrett, and Alain Jean-Marie. Committed to education, Celcal regularly teaches workshops and masterclasses and has directed a choir including blind singers and people living with Parkinson’s disease since 2013. 

His creative journey continued with the songbook Bel Air for Piano, Le Livre, production and arranging projects, and the 2018 album Colombo, a vibrant celebration of Caribbean, Creole, classical, and jazz influences.
