Meddy Gerville is a pianist, composer and producer from Reunion Island. An essential figure in Maloya Jazz, for more than twenty years he has developed a unique musical signature where the rhythmic depth of Maloya, the harmony of modern jazz and Afro-Caribbean influences meet.

Trained in classical piano before opening up to jazz and world music, Meddy Gerville has established himself as one of the major architects of the fusion between Creole tradition and contemporary jazz language. His artistic work explores ternary rhythms, polyrhythms inherited from maloya, the percussive textures of kayamb and the freedom of jazz improvisation.

Through critically acclaimed albums and numerous international collaborations, he builds a bridge between Reunion Island, Africa, the Caribbean and Europe. His music does not seek to folklorize Creole heritage, but to project it into a current, open and exportable aesthetic.

On stage, his universe is characterized by an organic energy, a constant dialogue between tradition and modernity, and an affirmed desire to promote Creole culture in today’s jazz.

Meddy Gerville also works to transmit this musical identity through masterclasses, educational projects and transdisciplinary collaborations, thus affirming Maloya Jazz as a strong and contemporary voice of the Creole world.
