Born in Guadeloupe, Sylvain Ransy grew up surrounded by Caribbean music, inspired from an early age by his father, a guitarist rooted in the region’s popular traditions. At 16, discovering Alain Jean-Marie’s album Biguine Reflections sparked a life-changing passion for jazz. After studying music in Guadeloupe, musicology in Toulouse, and professional training at CIAM in Bordeaux, he moved to Quebec in 2006 to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Performance at the University of Sherbrooke. Graduating top of his class in 2009, he further refined his artistry through a masterclass with renowned pianist Oliver Jones. During his years in Montreal, he developed a distinctive musical voice blending modern jazz with Caribbean rhythms and influences. Returning to France in 2012, he independently released his debut album Eclipse in 2015 and expanded several artistic projects. In 2026, he returned with Fingerprint, a trio recording that highlights his unique fusion of contemporary jazz and Caribbean heritage.
