Stéphane Castry is a French musician born in 1973 in Colombes who grew up in Guadeloupe, in a family deeply influenced by music. He first learned the violin before switching to the bass guitar as a teenager, the instrument on which he would develop his personal style. Largely self-taught, he trained by listening to jazz, funk, and Caribbean music, which explains his great musical versatility. After moving to Paris for his studies, he began a professional career and collaborated with many renowned artists across various styles. He notably became the bassist for the group Kassav’ and worked with international artists such as Angélique Kidjo and Ayo. Alongside these collaborations, he developed his own artistic projects, including the album Basstry Therapy, released in 2017. He also composes for visual media and shares his knowledge by teaching bass. Through his career and influence, he has become an important figure in contemporary jazz and Caribbean music.
